About Steve Ali

Steve holds a MBA from Herriot Watt University (based in Scotland) with electives in Human Resource Management and Strategic Planning and is also a Chartered Certified Accountant with the Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants (“ACCA”).

During Steve’s time at Highwater, he has engaged in managing various aspects of the client relationship, including detailed AML reviews, and acting as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer and supporting the AML Compliance Role. Steve has also been involved in a service level review of a major player in the administrator services industry, specifically on-site due diligence visit and review of AML processes and procedures, their overall investor relations controls; and processes relating to broker and counterparty trading transactions as part of the overall reconciliation process. Steve currently acts as the Deputy MLRO for Highwater.

Prior to joining HighWater, Steve was a Senior Account Manager at Citco Fund Services (Cayman Islands) Limited (“Citco”), the largest provider of hedge fund administration services globally. He spent 11 years at Citco, engaged in numerous global initiatives and projects (including being a member of the Global Valuations Expert Team and the Global Risk and Documentation Team); and engaging in the management of key client relationships from high net-worth, multi-billion dollar clients. In his time at Citco, being a senior member of the management team, Steve gained experience and knowledge on aspects relating to NAV Accounting; Investor Relations; AML and Compliance; Risk Management and Corporate Governance.

Steve spent seven years at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”) initially as a Senior Auditor and progressing to Manager, across the Caribbean, with a primary focus on Merchant Banking, Retail Banking; Private Wealth, Insurance, Hedge Funds and Airlines. At PwC, his background focused initially on Internal Audit, Corporate Governance and Risk Management, before transferring into Audit and Financial Services. At PwC, he was involved with a number of large scale mergers and business restructurings of major banks across the Caribbean region.

Steve was also a lecturer for three years, at a private college in Accounting, Cost and Management Accounting and Financial Risk Management.

Steve was also involved in the Reading Buddy Program (geared towards assisting young children with difficulty in reading); the Junior Achievement Program (geared towards assisting high-school students in the creation, running and dissolution of a business) and the Mentoring Program (geared towards providing work experience to high school students).
